Since May of 2014, Rory has been playing with San Francisco-based California Soul band Midtown Social

Bluesy rock jam featuring improvisation by Rory and saxophonist Teddy Raven.

An afro-beat funk song partially in the style of the great Fela Kuti.

MR METRÓNOMO

Rory's most recent project was writing and recording on LA musician/rapper/producer Mr Metrónomo's 5th studio release, The LA Metro Experience mixes blues, alt rock, hip hop and new age music in an aural pleasing and introspective package. All original music by John Perea and Rory Matthews. All guitars recorded by Rory Matthews.

Original Work as Composer, Arranger, and Performer

While at USC Rory studied within the Studio/Jazz Guitar Department under such players as Bruce Forman, Frank Potenza, and Pat Kelley. Here are live recordings of a few jazz tunes in a trio setting.

 "Deus Ex Machina" is an original composition for jazz quartet with guitar, piano, bass, and drums.

Down to Funk

"Rage" from Down to Funk's show at Slim's, San Francisco in 2010, an instrumental song composed by Rory Matthews and Gabe Martin.

Active from 2010 to 2012, Down to Funk quickly became a staple of the USC party scene with their blend of old school soul and hard-hitting funk. All music written by Rory, with additional parts by trumpeter Gabe Martin and vocalist Lara Johnston.
